Vladimir's son Cyril married his cousin Victoria Melita, a daughter of Wladimir's sister Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna. Tsar Nicholas II disapproved of this marriage because Victoria only a short time had previously been divorced from his brother, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse -Darmstadt. However, since there were several deaths in the imperial family, Cyril got back his title and status and was now in third place in the Russian throne.
