Grand Hotel (Oslo)

The Grand Hotel in Oslo is a 1874 established traditional luxury hotel in the main street, Karl Johans gate No. 31, opposite the Parliament Storting.

Founder of the hotel and the eponymous Grand Café was the pastry chef Julius Fritzner, landowners was his brother Nicolay. The cafe was located initially above the street level, but was rebuilt at the end of the 1870s by Jacob Nordan and the scene painter Wilhelm Krogh and the preferred meeting place for politicians, artists and writers.

The historicist hotel building with its own bell tower contains 289 partly furnished with period furniture. Here the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize is housed traditional. The hotel is now part of chain hotels Rica.
