Grand Traverse County, Michigan

Grand Traverse County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Traverse City.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 35 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, away and has an area of 1557 square kilometers, of which 352 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Antrim County, Kalkaska County, Wexford County, Benzie County and Leelanau County.

History

Grand Traverse County was formed from the 1851 Omeena County no longer exists. It was named after the Grand Traverse Bay.
