Grandevent

Grand Event is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Grand Event sits 665 meters above sea level. M., 7 kilometers north- west of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the Jura south slope, in a panoramic position overlooking the valley of the river Arnon.

The area of ​​3.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the southern slope of the Chasseron chain. The area extends from the Jura foot (580 m above sea level. M. ) northward, the densely wooded escarpment La Côte up and the amount of Brelingard ( 1'273 m above sea level. M. ) and the Cret Breny ( 1,219 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of La Calame on the anticlines of the Chasseron. In the north the municipality reached on the southern slope of the height of Les Cernets with 1'390 m above sea level. To Grandevent include some isolated farms of the Jura heights. Neighboring communities of Grand Event are Novalles, Bullet and Fontaines- sur -Grandson.

Population

With 223 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Grand Event is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 92.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.5 % and 1.4 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Grand Event amounted in 1850 to 152 inhabitants, after which it took until 1970 steadily to 58 people. Particularly in recent years, however, a significant increase in population was again recorded.

Economy

Grand Event was until the mid-20th century embossed mainly by agriculture village. Still prevail in the lower part of community agriculture, in the Jura hills cattle breeding and dairy farming. In recent decades, Grand Event has developed into a residential community. Since there are hardly any jobs in the village outside of the primary sector, many are employed commuters who work mainly in Yverdon.

Traffic

The community is located far away from the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Fontaines- sur -Grandson, a narrow road leads above the village continue to Villars -Burquin. The Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon Novalles, runs at certain times up to Grand Event.

History

Grand Event was relatively late compared with the other communities in the region. The first written record under the name Grand Evens took place in the 16th century. Some of the place was also named verse chez Grison for a homestead southwest of Grand Event. The village belonged to the Bailiwick Grandson, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg since 1476. Only 1730 Grand Event was an independent municipality after the division of the Office Meier Fiez. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
