Grandmaster Flash
Grandmaster Flash ( Joseph Saddler actually; * January 1, 1958, Barbados ) is an American rapper. He is next to Kool DJ Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore one of the pioneers of hip- hop.
Life and work
From 1976 he developed under the stage name DJ Grandmaster Flash, most techniques that characterize the DJ-ing in hip hop today: the Cutting ( parallel to the beat importing tracks), the backspinning ( the plate is to repeat a certain section quickly reversely rotated ) and phasing (which is produced by the reduction of the speed of one of the turntables, a phase effect). Further, some purely acrobatic techniques also go back to him. Kool DJ Herc and together with the Grand Wizard Theodore he discovered he has so created and perfected the tools of the DJ - ing.
The first success was with the band Grandmaster Flash Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, which was formed in 1977. His single The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel (1981 ), which he recorded live, in its innovative mix of songs like Good Times (Chic ), Another One Bites the Dust ( Queen) and Rapture applies ( Blondie ) as pioneering. After several years with his ensemble of varying composition you went late 80s separate ways. Short-lived Reunions remained without great response.
In Germany, he has been working together the mid-90s with various artists. So provided Grandmaster Flash along with Grand Wizard Theodore and Disco Bee contributions to the 1994 publication Sampler Protects the groove (Cologne Massive ). He and many other musicians such as The Dual System, The Coolen sows (DCS ), Plattenpapzt, Microphone Mafia or Constructive criticism sat down for the then popular Save The Vinyl motion one which would prevent the almost sealed the end of the record and how you also know now, this has at least delayed.
The most popular by far song by Grandmaster Flash 's The Message. 1999 caught his collaboration with the Polish DJ Tomekk 1 .. 2 .. Rhymes Galore sensation and landed on the charts. 2002 returned to Flash DJ-ing to disk and published with the Official Adventures a live Essential Mix Retro and with a "classic " old-school DJ CD. The song Scorpio was in the computer game Need for Speed: Carbon to hear. In 2009 released album The Bridge he sat with hip-hop greats like Q-Tip, KRS -One and Snoop Dogg new accents.
Importance
- Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys are the only previous hip-hop musicians, who were included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
