Granges-sur-Baume

Granges -sur -Baume is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Granges -sur -Baume is located on 495 m above sea level. M., about nine kilometers northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the central part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), at the edge of Erosionstals of Baume- les -Messieurs.

History

The municipality of Granges -sur -Baume was already inhabited during the Gallo- Roman period. The place name derives from the Latin word folk granica (barn ) from. Until 1789 formed Granges -sur -Baume along with Baume -les -Messieurs a parish.
