Granita

Granita is a frozen dessert Sicilian with a sorbet -like consistency.

The term derives from the Latin granum for grain, indicating the grain ( crystal ) Substance of the dessert.

The most common variant is prepared with sugar syrup and lots of freshly squeezed lemon juice. This mixture is frozen under of frequent stirring gradually, with a granular mass is formed, which is served in goblets with straw and spoon.

There are also a number of other variants in which the lemon juice is replaced for example by roasted and ground coffee, or almonds.

The granita is often taken with pastries, brioches to be around with, among others, as a refreshing breakfast on hot summer days.
