Gränna
Gränna is a place ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province of Jönköping County, the historical province of Småland.
The place is located in the municipality of Jönköping, on the eastern edge of the lake Vättern. It was founded in 1652 under the name " Brahe Grenna " by Per Brahe the Younger. Brahe Grenna was the first and only Swedish city that was noble in place of the royal town privileges.
Gränna is known as a center for the production of candy canes, which are sold in traditional red and white coloring under the name polkagris, and for its fruit orchards. From the village there is a ferry service to the island Visingsö. In the summer Gränna is a popular destination for tourists. The development of the central parts of the city consists mainly of villas which often have a garden. The main street of the town is in summer a bottleneck for the tourist car currents.
In Gränna was the famous balloonist Salomon August Andrée, born. There in his memory in place a museum that documents the failed polar expedition of 1897.
