Grant Galago ( Galago granti )

The grant or grant Zwerggalago Galago ( Galago granti or Galagoides granti ) is a primate of the family of galagos ( Galagonidae ). He was summarized earlier with the Zanzibar Galago to a kind, but differs from the latter including in the sounds and in the construction of the reproductive tract.

Features

Grant Galagos like all Galagos relatively small primates, they reach a weight of 100 to 200 grams. Their fur is reddish-brown at the top, the underside is lighter. The tail is bushy and slightly longer than the body, the hind legs are strong. The snout is elongated, the eyes are big, the ears are also large, hairless and very mobile.

Dissemination and lifestyle

Grant Galagos live in eastern Africa, their range includes the coastal regions of southern Tanzania and Mozambique as well as the neighboring regions of Malawi and Zimbabwe. Their habitat is the coastal forests, but also mountain forests in the interior up to 1800 meters above sea level.

Little is known about the habits of these animals. Like all Galagos they are nocturnal and stay mainly in the trees. Their diet consists of fruit, insects, and tree sap.

Endangering

Grant Galagos are considered widespread and common, the IUCN lists the species as " not at risk " ( least concern ).
