Grant County (Indiana)
Grant County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marion.
Geography
The County is located in the central northeastern Indiana and has an area of 1074 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Huntington County, Wells County, Blackford County, Delaware County, Madison County, Tipton County, Howard County, Miami County and Wabash County.
History
Grant County was formed on February 10, 1813 from portions of Cass County, Delaware County and Madison County. It was named after Henry Grant, a politician and U.S. Senator.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Grant County 73 403 people in 28 319 households and 19 568 families. The population density was 68 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 89.23 percent White, 7.19 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.56 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.02 percent from other races groups; 1.53 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.43 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 28 319 households out of which 29.5 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers and 30.9 percent were non-families. 26.7 percent of all households and 11.5 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.92.
23.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 11.8 percent between 18 to 24, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 88.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 36,162, and the median income for a family $ 44,304. Males have a median income of $ 33,767, women $ 23,801. The per capita income was $ 18,003. 8.4 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
