Grant County (Kansas)

Grant County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) and only city is Ulysses. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southwest of Kansas, each about 45 km in the west of Colorado and to the south is from Oklahoma and has an area of 1489 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kearny County, Finney County, Haskell County, Stevens County, Stanton County and Hamilton County.

History

Grant County was formed on March 6, 1873, the original County of free territory. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant, a general of the northern states during the American Civil War and the 18th U.S. President.
