Grant County (Nebraska)

Grant County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hyannis.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Nebraska, is located about 120 km to the southwest of Colorado, located in the north about 110 km from South Dakota and has an area of 2029 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cherry County, Hooker County, Arthur County, Garden County and Sheridan County.

History

Grant County was formed in 1884. It was named after General Ulysses S. Grant.

According to the census of 2000, there were 747 people in Grant County. Of these, no one was living in collective centers, the inhabitants lived in 292 households, and 226 families. The population density was 0.3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.8 percent White, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and 0.8 percent from other ethnic groups. 1.3 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 292 households out of which 37.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 67.5 percent were married couples living together, 6.5 percent were single mothers, 22.6 percent were non-families, 22.3 percent of all households and 8.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.98.

Based on the county the population was spread out 29.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 5.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 114.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were statistically 105.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,821, and the median income for a family was $ 37,011. Males had a median income of $ 26,319, women $ 14,417. The per capita income was $ 14,815. 8.2 percent of families and 9.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 16.7 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 0.0 percent of those 65 years.
