Grant Hackett

Grant George Hackett ( born May 9, 1980 in Southport, Queensland ) is a former Australian swimmer.

Career

Hackett swam until the age of fourteen and was the best 1,500 - m freestyle swimmers in the world since the late 1990s. With the World Swimming Championships in Perth domestic he first won the gold medal at the Olympic longest route. He could repeat on this route each subsequent championship this success and he was from 1997 up to the World Swimming Championships in 2007 unbeaten at 1500 m freestyle.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Hackett came in to win the third gold medal in this discipline. He was behind the Tunisian Oussama Mellouli, who after a 18-month doping ban in May 2008 may participate in competitions again, only second. Thus Hackett missed the chance to become the first swimmer to win in one discipline at three consecutive Summer Olympics, a gold medal.

His coach Denis Cotterell was. End of October 2008, Mr. Hackett stated his retirement from swimming.

Hackett is a graduate of the prestigious Bond University in Queensland, where he earned his Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce ( bachelor in law and business ).
