Granta Park

Granta Park is a science, technology and biopharmaceutical park on the banks of the River Granta, based in Great Abington, Cambridge, England.

The first idea for the park came from the then Chief Executive of The Welding Institute (TWI Ltd ) Bevan Braithwaite OBE. He began in 1992 with negotiations for an option to buy the 35 acres of mostly farmland, has now been built on the Granta Park. He received a building permit from the South Cambridgeshire District Council, which set the basic concept for a development with high quality and low density. A design team consisting of Latz Partner, one of Germany's leading landscape design firms, and Eric Parry Architects developed the master plan for the park in ecological criteria with the aim of maintaining and improving the existing landscape and ensured that the terrain is easily accessible. A partnership was formed between TWI Ltd and MEPC plc, which developed along the Granta Park Ltd. MEPC, which had already achieved a great success with Milton Park, Abingdon Oxfordshire, supported TWI Ltd professionally in implementing Bevan Braithwaite's vision of a new Science and Technology Park into reality.

After the groundbreaking ceremony at the end of 1997, the new park in Great Abington nahmn quickly taking shape. Bevan Braithwaite, Chief Executive of TWI Ltd, launched along with Councilwoman Shirley Saunders, Chairman of South Cambridgeshire County Council, and Gavin Davidson of MEPC plc to build the building cluster of modern research and development facilities.
