Granville Woods

Granville tailers Woods ( born April 23, 1856 in Columbus, Ohio; † 30 January 1910 at New York City ) was an American inventor. He held more than 50 patents and was the first American with African ancestry in the position of the mechanical and electrical engineer after the Civil War. A self-taught artist, he concentrated most of his work on trains and trams. One of his notable inventions was the multiplex telegraphy, means for sending messages between stations and moving trains. His work ensured safer and better public transport for the cities of the United States.
