Grasburg (Rottleberode)

The Grasburg is a prehistoric refuge fort in the form of a hill fort with Wall and grave system at Rottleberode in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt.

History

The grass castle in the Old Stolberg said the forested area between Stempeda and Rottleberode in the southern Harz is the legend, the ancestral castle of the Counts of Stolberg. About the lineage of the Counts of Stolberg, there are different theories about, but of which could not enforce final.

This grass castle was inhabited from the 10th to the 12th century. In the 13th century a chapel was built on the castle grounds, in the annual church festival was celebrated until the 15th century. After that, the chapel fell into ruin from which several parts have survived to this day. Get has a gable wall with broken Choir opening and parts of the choir and nave walls. In the south wall of the choir is still a round-arched window to see. Such a ceremony was held at St. Stephen's, for example ( = August 3 ) 1497 instead of on the Craßburg.
