Grasmere
Grasmere is a village in the county of Cumbria in North West England. The location in the center of the Lake District National Park attracts many tourists.
Geography
Grasmere is close to the homonymous lake. Not far north of the village rises the 405 m high Helm Crag. He is also known under the name of the lion and the lamb (German: the lion and the lamb), which is due to the shapes of some rock on the summit of the hill. The A591 leads north to Keswick and south to Ambleside.
Management
The original Civil Parish has since been managed by an Urban District Council, from 1934, the Lakes Urban District was. Today is part of the Lakes Grasmere Parish.
Since the 1960s, the population of the town is in decline.
Personalities
The poet William Wordsworth lived from 1799 to 1808 in Dove Cottage, a small villa on the outskirts of Grasmere.
