Gravamen (Latin: oppressive burden; plural: Gravamina ) is a term used in the Middle Ages and refers to:

A complaint or charge against the Church and clergy or feudal lords. Known primarily grievances of the German nation
An objection to statements of a religious confession
To be furnished by the subjects delivery to the feudal lords and the Church
General impairment or stress on the subjects
In civil litigation the more contentious part of the claim sued for the amount.
