Gravelotte

Gravelotte is a commune with 739 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality of Gravelotte is located on the border of the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle, about 15 kilometers west of the city of Metz. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

The first mention of Gravelotte in 1137 as Graveium. The town gained notoriety through the battle of Gravelotte, which took place on 18 August during the 1870 Franco-German War there.
