Gray marmot
Gray marmot ( Marmota baibacina )
The gray marmot ( Marmota baibacina ) is a species of the family of squirrels. It comes in the Altai and Tianshan Mountains in Southwest Siberia (Russia), in south-eastern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and the Xinjiang province in the People's Republic of China before. In the eastern Caucasus ( Dagestan ), it has been introduced. In the Mongolian Altai Mountains its range is adjacent to the Siberian marmot and both species are partially sympatric ago. The species was classified by the IUCN in 1996 as not at risk.
There are three subspecies:
- M. b. baibacina
- M. b. centralis
- M. b. kastschenkoi
