Grays is the largest town in the Suffolk local authority ( Unitary Authority) Thurrock east of London on the north bank of the River Thames and has around 73,000 inhabitants.

Main thoroughfare in the city is the London Road, which connects with the Grays to Lakeside Shopping Centre and Purfleet.

An attractions are: the Thameside Theatre and the Thurrock History Museum. Grays was the seat of the important baronial family of the Greys, who bore the nickname of Codnor and which belonged to the English peerage since 1299.
