Grayson County (Kentucky)

Grayson County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Leitchfield, which was named after Major David Leitch, whose widow donated the land for the city. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County lies to the west of the geographic center of Kentucky, is in the north about 50 miles from Illinois, located in the south about 80 miles from Tennessee and has an area of 1323 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Breckinridge County, Hardin County, Hart County, Edmonson County, Butler County and Ohio County.

History

Grayson County was formed on January 15, 1810 from portions of Hardin County and Ohio County. It was named after Colonel William Grayson, who supported George Washington.
