Great Dorset Steam Fair

The Great Dorset Steam Fair is an annual end of August held five-day steam meeting in Dorset, England, so an exhibition that focuses on steam powered vehicles and machines.

The event has been held since 1968, currently in Tarrant Hinton near Blandford Forum, Dorset.

The Steam Fair takes place on an otherwise agricultural area of about 250 hectares and is visited in the course of the five days of the event according to organizers of approximately 200,000 people.

Attractions

Typical exhibits are tractors with steam propulsion ( steam tractors ), steam rollers, traction engines and steam cars.

A special attraction are the so-called Showman 's engines were used by showmen from the second half of the 19th century to built-in generators to supply more than firmly into the machine its roundabouts or fairground organs with electricity and transport the equipment from place to place. The Great Dorset Steam Fair are about sixty of such machines, mainly produced by Charles Burrell & Sons, performed during operation.

Furthermore, historical agricultural machinery, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, cars and tractors will be issued. Another section shows old stationary engines from different manufacturers with the appropriate accessories. Most of the exhibition space is occupied by a fair, composed of historical and current equipment and stalls. The exhibition is enhanced by different flea market stalls and an amusement park with various rides, partly historical.

In various demonstrations, the exhibits are used, for example, for plowing, threshing, sawing and road construction. Set on a hillside steam engines and historic truck will be demonstrated when towing heavy loads during the fair. Another hill area is used for demonstrations for steam plowing.
