Great North of Scotland Railway

The Great North of Scotland Railway ( GNSR ) was a British railway company that existed from 1845 to 1922. The length of the rail network in the north- east of Scotland was 538 km.

Originally GNSR ago had to build a double track route from Aberdeen to Inverness, for which she received the approval of the Parliament on 26 June 1846. However, the railway line eventually reached only to the town of Keith. Two other companies, which aufgingen later in the Highland Railway, completed the route, the Inverness and Nairn Railway and the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway.

Since the GNSR their expected target could not reach, she went on to build secondary roads in the county of Aberdeenshire. The company also owned hotels in the cities and tourist destinations in its catchment area. With the entry into force of the Railways Act 1921 on 1 January 1923, the GNSR went on in the London and North Eastern Railway. Until the late 1960s all routes were shut down except for the main line.
