Great saphenous vein

The great saphenous vein ( " large rose vein", literally " great hidden vein " in animal anatomy medial saphenous vein called ) is a superficially located vein of the lower limb.

It arises from the confluence of several Fußvenen on the lower leg and then pulls the center to the tibia and dorsomedial to the inner condyle of the femur ( medial condyle ) to the inner thigh. Apart from humans, it is accompanied by the saphenous artery. The vein may be used for blood collection and for exposing a peripheral venous catheter. In particular, in cats it is the largest of easily accessible superficial veins.
