Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company

Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company ( GNPOC short ) is an oil company in Sudan. According to the company ( as of early 2006) GNPOC produces more than 300,000 barrels of oil per day. After the completion of a pipeline in April 2006 that connects the oil fields in South Sudan with Khartoum and Port Sudan, is expected to rise in late 2006 at 500,000 barrels of oil per day production.

The company owns licenses for Units 1, 2 and 4

GNPOC was June 18, 1997 officially registered and is a joint - venture, which is currently owned by the following companies:

  • China National Petroleum Corporation of China with a share of 40 %
  • Malaysia's Petronas, with a share of 30%
  • ONGC from India with a share of 25 %
  • Sudapet from Sudan with a share of 5%

Activities

  • Exploration of new oil fields
  • Construction of the pipeline to Port Sudan
  • Since 1999 funding of 50,000 barrels per day
  • Since July 2004 promotion of 290,000 barrels per day
  • Since April 2006 planned mining of 500,000 barrels per day ( delay due to technical difficulties )

History

Talisman Energy Inc. belonged from 1998 to 2002, a 25 - % share before this ONGC Videsh Ltd to. was sold from India.
