Greatest Hits Vol 2 is the second best-of album of the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was first published on 26 October 1979 in the UK, three days later it was also released in Sweden and other countries. The album reached # 1 in Belgium, the UK and Canada, as well as in ten other countries, the top ten. In a 1981 -built Statistics of Polar Music, it was ranked fourth on the ranking of ABBA sales. Even today, with more than 6 million copies of the best-selling ABBA albums. In Japan alone, more than a million copies were sold.

The album and its success

The album was recorded with the single release of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight ) connected. Stig Anderson, the manager of the group, said, namely, that buyers of the new single but should equal buy the new compilation. That's why it angered him even more so than the single debuted at number 16 of the Swedish charts, while the album was ranked only 20.

The material mainly includes pieces from the albums Arrival, The Album and Voulez -Vous. Only Rock Me from the album ABBA was included on the track list, as it had in 1975 reached the Top 5 in the Australian charts; as well as the year before released single Summer Night City. For unknown reasons until today the two stereo channels were exchanged in this album ( both on vinyl and on the no longer available CD version ).

The release of Greatest Hits Vol 2 overlapped with the currently running concert tour of ABBA, which started on September 13 in North America and was continued in Europe since October 19, 1979. This additional height of their popularity helped the LP, especially in Great Britain to a quick chart entry, where it was four weeks at No. 1 and has sold around 1.2 million copies. In Canada, Greatest Hits Vol 2 could reach the top position. It remained there until today the only number-one album of ABBA.
