Greek red-tailed lizard ( Hellenolacerta graeca )
The Greek red-tailed lizard ( Hellenolacerta graeca ) belongs to a type within the family of the Real lizards. The genus is monotypic Hellenolacerta.
Features
Adult males can Gesamtlängenn of up to 260 mm. Approximately 2/3 of this amount on the tail. The total lean physique is emphasized by the stretched, pointed snout and the long neck and makes the nimble lizard within their distribution area distinctive. The surface of the small, smooth body scales reflects the light with a greasy luster. Males are distinguished by the bright yellow or orange underside of the females. Young animals fall onto by a blue-green shimmering tail coloration.
Way of life
The Greek red-tailed lizard is diurnal. In many places they have become accustomed to people and behaves here little shy. She leads a predominantly climbing lifestyle to partly vertical cliffs, where they erhnährt on insects and arachnids.
Dissemination
The species is endemic to the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece.
Habitat
There are mainly canyons and similar rocky terrain inhabited, like in the immediate vicinity of watercourses ( streams, springs ... ). On the Mani in the southern Peloponnese exceptionally close to the shore, from the rocks, ruins and the like.
