Green Island (Queensland)

Green Iceland is an island in the north of the Australian state of Queensland and is located about 27 km east of Cairns.
Geology and origin
Green Iceland is located on a 720 -acre coral reef and has itself only a size of 15 ha. It is about 300 m wide and 650 m long with a circumference of 1.5 km.
History
The island was named by James Cook, who named it after the astronomer Charles Green.

It can be, and others, snorkel, dive and visit the rain forest on the island. Also, tours are offered into the Outer Great Barrier Reef.
On the island there is an underwater observatory.
Several companies offer day tours from Cairns to the island.
