Green Mountains

P1

The Green Mountains are a mountain range in the U.S. state of Vermont. The mountain zone extends in an almost straight line from East Richford to the north with the Jay Peak ( 1177 m) on the border with the province of Quebec in Canada over about 355 km ( 220 miles ) to the south to the border with the neighboring state of Massachusetts.

The highest elevation of 1339 m is Mount Mansfield, 16 km (10 miles) northeast of Burlington. This gentle hills with the most deciduous forest (maple) are covered, a marked contrast to the rough granite massif of the nearby White Mountains in northern New Hampshire. And the weather at the time of Indian Summer in the Green Mountains in October is still milder than in the neighboring state.

French settlers who settled permanently against the British in the area, gave the area - so the tradition - the name " les verts monts ," the green mountains.
