Greene County (Arkansas)
The Greene County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. In 2010, the County had 42 090 inhabitants and a population density of 28.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Paragould.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Arkansas and borders - separated by the St. Francis River - in the east to the south-eastern part of Missouri. It has an area of 1501 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water are. At the Greene County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Greene County was formed on November 5, 1833 from parts of Lawrence County. It was named after Nathaniel Greene, a general during the American Revolution. The first trials were held at the home of Benjamin Crowley, who, coming from Kentucky, moved here in 1821 the first white man.
The governor of the Louisiana colony Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac was probably the first Europeans who explored the area in the northeast of Arkansas. 1715 commissioned him to the French king with the search for the sources of the St. Francis River, because there rich silver deposits were assumed.
