Greenfield is a city in Franklin County in Massachusetts and at the same time the seat of the County. It has 17 456 inhabitants according to the census of 2010 and is the only city in the county with more than 10,000 inhabitants.

The city is located at the intersection of Mohawk Trail or the Massachusetts Route 2 in the east-west direction with Interstate 91 in the north-south direction. The city was founded in 1686 and in 1753 declared as a city.

The original population of the Pocumtuc Indians who lived in this area, was sold in 1664 by the tribe of the Mohawk.
