Greenfield is a city in Milwaukee County in the southeast of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2000, Greenfield had 35 476 inhabitants, whose number rose to 2009 to 36 459.

Geography

Greenfield is located at 42 ° 57'47 " north latitude and 87 ° 59'45 " west longitude and covers 29.7 km ². The city lies at the Root River, 13.2 km southwest of the city Milwaukee.

History

Greenfield was awarded as the last municipality in Milwaukee County, the official status of an independent municipality. In 1957, the ceremony of the official status of a "City" took place. The constitution of the town was made in response to the expansion of the neighboring city Milwaukee to the then Town (ship) Greenfield.
