Greensboro Monarchs

The Greensboro Monarchs were an American Hockey franchise from Greensboro, North Carolina. The venue for the Monarchs was the Greensboro Coliseum.

History

The franchise was founded in 1989 and took his game to operating in the East Coast Hockey League. Head coach was Jeff Brubaker, who was active in his career in the NHL. The Monarchs reached in their first season already the playoffs and also won the Riley Cup in the finals against the Winston -Salem Thunderbirds. Wade Flaherty, who later played in the NHL, was elected as the first player of the Monarchs for MVP. In the following years the team was not quite as successful.
