Greenwich Park

Greenwich Park is one of the Royal Parks in London. It is located in the London Borough of Greenwich. In 1997, the Greenwich Park and the associated buildings of the UNESCO declared World Heritage Site.

On the northern edge of the 73- hectare park, home to the National Maritime Museum and the Queen's House, a former royal palace are located. On a hill in the middle of the park, the Royal Greenwich Observatory is located. The small square in front of the observatory is adorned by a statue of General James Wolfe.

From the hill you can see to the north a stunning panorama of the former Greenwich Hospital ( later the Royal Naval College), the Thames, the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf, the City of London and the Millennium Dome.

The park has numerous leisure facilities including a children's playground, a boating lake, a herb garden, a flower garden with a duck pond, a rose garden, a cricket playground, tennis courts, a bandstand and a small zoo. South of the park closes, separated by a wide road, green area of Blackheath.

In Greenwich Park is the start site of the annual London Marathon.

Greenwich Park was the venue for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in 2012. Here the equestrian contests, and the disciplines were jumping and combined ( skiing and shooting ) of the modern pentathlon discharged. For the park in 2012, was remodeled and an equestrian stadium with 23,000 seats and a cross country course installed.
