Greenwood is a place of Sebastian County in the western part of the U.S. state of Arkansas.

Geography

Greenwood is located at 35 ° 12'56 " north latitude and 94 ° 15'12 " west longitude. The State of Oklahoma begins at a distance of five kilometers to the west. History

Greenwood was founded in 1851 and named after Judge Alfred Burton Greenwood, as the site was selected for a county seat. First, a courthouse in log home construction was built, which was replaced in 1865 by a building in timber frame and the center of the place was. Later it was destroyed by a fire and south of the original location rebuilt in 1916. The growth of Greenwood was initially relatively slow, but by the outbreak of the Civil War the town was of some importance as a trading post.
