Greenwood County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greenwood.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern South Carolina, is located in the southwest about 30 km from Georgia and has an area of ​​1199 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Laurens County, Newberry County, Edgefield County, Saluda County, McCormick County and Abbeville County.

History

Greenwood County was formed in 1897. It was named after the Greenwood plantation of Judge John McGehee.
