Greg Holst

Gregory Gordon Holst ( born February 21, 1954 in Montreal ) is a former Austrian- Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach. His sons Michael and Taylor are also professional hockey players.

Career

Holst began his career as a hockey player in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, for whom he played eleven games. In the American Hockey League, he played for the team New Haven Nighthawks from New Haven, Connecticut. In the season 1978/79 he went to Europe, first in the German Bundesliga to Mannheim. From there he moved to Innsbruck, another player stations were Vienna, Salzburg, Villach and Graz. As an international, he participated in four World Championships Group B and scored 15 goals and 15 assists. Overall Greg Holst scored 522 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga and is therefore only by another Austro Canadians, Rick Nasheim surpassed, who scored 545 goals. There are a further 506 assists, so it also lies in the eternal points list at number two.

Coach

After the 1992/93 season, he finished his career as an active player and went back to Canada, where he founded a hockey school in Kelowna. In 1997 he returned to Austria and started as a trainer in Wattens (Regional ). He also coached the junior of Innsbruck and the U20 and U18 national team and was assistant coach of the national team under coach Ron Kennedy.

In the season 2002/ 03 he was manager of a Premier League team of the SV Villach first time. With the club in 2006 he reached the championship. Three times he was able to reach the final with his team, but failed to Innsbruck, Linz and Salzburg. 2008/ 09 season, he coached the Innsbruck HC. In the season 2011/12 he was the Italian first division Ritten Sport behind the gang.
