Gregor Cankar

Gregor Cankar ( born January 25, 1975 in Celje ) is a Slovenian former athlete, who specialized in the long jump.

It was established in 1994 in Lisbon Junior World Champion and won at the 1995 Universiade in Fukuoka the bronze medal. In 1996 he occupied at the European Indoor Championships in Stockholm the fourth and in the Olympic Games in Atlanta in sixth place in the long jump.

At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 he finished seventh. In the same year he won at the Mediterranean Games in Bari and was again at the Universiade in Sicily third parties.

According to a sixth place finish at the Indoor Athletics Championships 1998 in Valencia and a fourth place finish at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Maebashi in 1999 Cankar finally celebrated the biggest success of his career at the World Athletics Championships in 1999 in Seville. There, he won with a width of 8.36 m the bronze medal behind Iván Pedroso and Yago Lamela. As a result Cankar was elected Athlete of the Year in Slovenia.

After that, however, not succeeded to build on its previous achievements. So he retired at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and 2004 in Athens and at the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 each of the qualification.

Gregor Cankar is 1,79 m tall and weighed 67 kg to his playing days.
