Gregori Chmara

Gregori Chmara ( born July 29, 1878 in Poltava, Russian Empire, now Ukraine, Grigory Mikhailovich native Chmara; † February 3, 1970 in Paris) was a Ukrainian- burly actor.

Life

Chmara, a student Konstantin Sergeyevich Stanislavsky, his theater career began in 1910 at the Moscow Art Theatre. In 1915 he starred in Russian films and took on significant roles here, including the title role of Rodion Raskolnikov.

In 1919 he emigrated to Germany and played theater among others, Max Reinhardt. In 1922, he was able to continue his film work and embodied in Robert Wiene's Raskolnikov again the title character. In the Bible filming I.N.R.I. he played Jesus Christ and then had a short time cult status.

Soon Chmara remained only minor roles, and GW Pabst in The Joyless Street, he received only a brief appearance as a waiter. He was seen at that time significant other of Asta Nielsen and almost only in movies in which she acted.

In 1929, he starred in the title role czlowick in the unsuccessful Polish film Mocny. In 1933 he went to Paris for the first time since 1936 he ever lived in France. He played here, especially theater and performed as a singer and guitarist on in Paris cabarets. He also participated in irregular intervals until his 90th year in movies.
