Gregorio Benito

Gregorio Benito Rubio ( born October 21, 1946 in El Puente del Arzobispo, Toledo ) is a former Spanish footballer.

Career

Gregorio " Goyo " Benito began his career at the small Madrid club Salesianos de Atocha before moving to the next generation of Real Madrid at the age of 16 years. After four years in his youth, he went on loan to Rayo Vallecano, with whom he already reached the rise in its first season in the Segunda División. Rayo lost a single game, and the defense to Hernandez, Benito Chufi and even made ​​a name in Spanish football. After another season eventually took him coach Miguel Muñoz in 1968 in the first squad of Real Madrid, but due to his military service, it was only on 27 October 1969 as Goyo Benito finally made ​​its debut. He immediately secured a regular place in central defense, and peaked in the next 14 years a total of eleven national titles, including six championships and five cup wins. But denied it was an international success, although he reached the final with Real Madrid in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1970/71 as well as in the European Cup of Champions 1980/81, and each lost against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Gregorio Benito was part of the Spanish banns at the Olympic Games in 1968, where his team reached the quarter-finals. With the Spanish national team, he played 23 games.

Benito is a carrier of Laureada ( to German laurel wreath ), an award rewarded with the Real Madrid special sacrifice. Apart from him, she wears only Pirri.
