Gregorio Manzano

Gregorio Manzano Ballesteros (* August 5, 1956 in Bailen ) is a Spanish football coach, who coached the Spanish side RCD Mallorca.

Coaching career

Born in Bailen Gregorio Manzano trained up to its commitment in 1999 at Real Valladolid numerous unterklassige teams from Segunda División B, Tercera División and the League Regional ( 5 Spanish League ).

As Erstligatrainer

With the acquisition of the coach duties at the first division club Real Valladolid Gregorio Manzano caused a first for country-wide interest. In the 1999/2000 season, he reached in league rookie equal to the eighth place in the table. Despite this success, he left the club to hire at Racing Santander. The Kantabriern it was anything but good and so was standing at the end of the season in the Segunda División, the descent. This did not hurt his popularity and so he joined the following season to league rivals Rayo Vallecano. With the Madrid suburb he reached a respectable mid-table.

The first successes

At the beginning of the 2002/ 03 to Manzano decided for the offer of the relegation RCD Mallorca. High expectations were placed on the part of the ambitious first division side to him, which he could fulfill. Not only that, he and his team almost reached the 6th place at the end of the season, which would in any case means the participation in the UEFA Cup, but against Recreativo Huelva succeeded in the cup final, a 3-0 win and this meant next to the first title in Manzano coaching career also direct qualification for the international business.

Atlético Madrid, that with all the power would play a significant role in the league and internationally, Manzano committed then. After a great season it was enough to turn non- international business for the " rojiblancos ", though, so that the club Manzano had to leave early only unhappy because of the lost direct comparison with FC Sevilla.

League and return to Mallorca

For the 2004/2005 season of FC Malaga undertook the dismissed at Atletico coach, and it paid off with a good midfielder in the league. After the sacking of Héctor Cúper at Manzano's former club RCD Mallorca, he returned to his old stamping ground in February 2006. There he has managed to make Mallorcans an integral part of the Primera División. In January 2008, the reward was followed by the leaders of the association, which extended his contract until June 2010.

On 20 May 2010 it was announced that Manzano will leave the club for financial reasons.

Fresh start at FC Sevilla

Since 27 September 2010 he has been head coach of Sevilla FC. He took over for Antonio Alvarez, who was fired because of the bad start to the season. The Andalusians he led this season in fifth place, the right to participate in the UEFA Europa League 2011 /12. After that season, he returned as coach Atlético Madrid, where he replaced Quique Sánchez Flores. He remained, however, only a scant six months; he was on leave after leaving the Copa del Rey 2011/12 with two losses against the second division Albacete Balompié on 21 December 2011.

Third term at RCD Mallorca

Beginning in February 2013 Manzano returned for the third time to RCD Mallorca back and succeeds by Joaquín Caparrós. He signed a contract until the first end of the season 2012/13, but has an option for another season.
