Grenland

Grenland is a district in the coastal parts of the Norwegian province of Telemark and includes the four municipalities Bamble, Porsgrunn, Skien and Siljan. Also parts of Nome, especially the village of Hollanders are sometimes expected to do so.

The district has 101 539 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2008) and covers 1462 km ². The cities Langesund, Stathelle, Brevik, Porsgrunn and Skien together 85 812 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2007), making Norway's seventh largest contiguous area of ​​settlement, both the names Grenlandsbyen and Porsgrunn / Skien are used for.

The term Grenland for low Telemark has been around since the Middle Ages. The name comes from the old people of the Grener. A historical figure from Grenland was Harald Grenske.

Grenland is Norway's largest industrial area and the center of the petrochemical industry.
