History

On June 4, 1927 Pierre Van Werveke and a native of Eupen Henri Michel founded the newspaper as a "Christian institution to promote the economic interests of the neubelgischen areas" and gave it out once a week. Between 1903 and 1914 there had already been in Welkenraedt a newspaper of the same name, which, however, had nothing in common with the new boundary echo. The Catholic party in 1929, the owner of the newspaper, from 1932 to 1985 belonged to the newspaper the Catholic Association " Action Catholique " in Verviers.

Because of its clear positioning against Nazism the border Echo was banned on German territory in April 1933, seven years before the German invasion of Belgium. The restart after the Second World War took place under the direction of the previous, released from Sachsenhausen concentration camp chief editor Henri Michel, who held the post of chief editor until 1 November 1965 and was succeeded by Henry Toussaint as chief editor and director. In 1985 took over Heinz Warny the scepter in the border Echo editorial staff. At the same time publishing Directorate and Editorial Board were separated. As Chairman of the Board and Head of Publishing acted from now on Alfred Küchenberg. Together with Ernst Thommessen Küchenberg was also responsible publisher from now on.
