Gretchen Wilson

Gretchen Wilson ( born June 26, 1973 in Pocahontas, Illinois ) is an American country music singer and songwriter.

Biography

Gretchen Wilson comes from a humble background from a village with about 700 inhabitants. Her mother was when she was born only 16 years old, her father left mother and daughter two years later. At the age of fifteen, Wilson went out and worked as a waitress.

In 1996, she decided - without qualifications - to move to Nashville, where Wilson worked as a background singer in the " Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar " in the Printers Alley and simultaneously recorded demo tapes. In 2000, she was discovered by the musicians Big & Rich, who heard her singing some pieces with the house band. In the same year their daughter Grace Frances Penner was born.

Finally, Wilson signed a recording contract with Epic Records. From her debut album " Here for the Party " from the year 2003, five million units were sold, the album four times platinum. From the Academy of Country Music Awards, she was in the same year in the categories " Best Female Vocalist " and " Best New Artist " award. In 2005 they released their second album "All Jacked Up".

Gretchen Wilson represents a strictly traditional music style, enriched with rock elements, in their texts they often describe their own life experiences and life circumstances, eg as a waitress.

After two failures in country radio in the United States ( "Do not Do Me No Good ", "The Earring Song) Gretchen Wilson lost on 28 July 2009 their recording contract with Sony Music Nashville.
