Grete von Zieritz

Grete von Zieritz ( born March 10, 1899 in Vienna, † 26 November 2001 in Berlin) was an Austrian- German composer and pianist.

Life

Grete von Zieritz, the daughter of an officer raised to the peerage in 1918, grew up in Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz, and was six years old her first piano lessons. Your training at Hugo Kroemer (piano) and Roderich Mojsisovics of Mojsvár (composition), she completed in 1917 with honors. In Berlin, she continued her studies with Martin Krause, a pupil of Franz Liszt, and with Rudolf Maria Breithaupt continued. After the successful performance of their Japanese songs, she decided to become a composer in 1921.

She remained in Berlin and was from 1926 to 1931 in the famous master class of Franz Schreker. In 1928 she received the Grand Mendelssohn prize for composition.

In 2009 ( 22nd District ) was named after her in the Zieritzgasse Vienna Danube city.
