The Grey River is a river in the South Island of New Zealand. He springs from Lake Christabel, one of the many lakes in the West Coast region of the Southern Alps, 12 km south of the Lewis Pass and flows for a distance of 120 km westward, before it flows into the Tasman Sea at Greymouth.

The mouth of the Grey River is completed by a large sandbank, which is considered the danger zone for shipping in the estuary.

The river was discovered by the researcher Thomas Brunner and named in honor of the New Zealand politician Sir George Grey. The Maori name of the river is Mawhera.
