The Hippodamische scheme, or Hippodamische system is a method of ancient Greece to the expansion, start-up or the reconstruction of cities. In 479 BC the city of Miletus was rebuilt to the Hippodamian justice system after its destruction by the Persians in blocks of three to two plots. 352 BC Priene was built accordingly to the harmony laws of Pythagoras and the Hippodamian system.

In Roman cities, this principle has been adopted (Augusta Treverorum, CCAA, Leptis Magna, etc.).
