Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is a building in Los Angeles, California.

It is located on the south side of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park at 300 meters above sea level. The observatory is a place known for tourists and residents of the city as well as for his scientific exhibits, the planetarium and the panorama. From here a view of the entire region between the center of Los Angeles to the Bay of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean is possible.

The white domed building was completed on 14 May 1935 according to plans by John C. Austin and Russell W. Porter in a mixture of Art Deco and Egyptian style. After four years of renovations took place on 2 November 2006 its re-opening. 70 million people visited the Observatory since its opening.

It houses three main sections: the Hall of Science, Planetarium and the laserium. You can see numerous exhibits. These include rocks from Mars, the Moon and meteorites, a model of the Hubble Space Telescope, a seismograph and a 100 -pound Foucault pendulum.

The building was for several movies filming location, including ... for they know not what they do (1955 ), Terminator (1984 ), The Rocketeer (1991 ), The End of Violence (1997), Bowfinger (1999), Queen of the Damned (2001 ), 3 Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle (2003), Transformers (2007) and Yes Man (2008). It also appears in several video games, including GTA San Andreas, Mafia II and GTA 5

In addition, the building also served as a filming location in series, eg Riptide, Episode: Stressed hospitality (1984).
