The Grift is popularly known part of the fossa Eugeniana, which runs into the Dondert from the Dutch border to the mouth. While the bulk of the fossa Eugeniana leads no water, the Grift serves as a drainage ditch and leads water all year round. It is named after the eponymous peasantry in Walbeck ( money ) and the associated Griftenweges.
